Joe has been pattern welding steel since 1995. He specializes in historic configurations, particularly the multi-bar/separate- edge composite blade structure associated with Migration period through early medieval and Viking swords. Joe has a background in journalism, where he worked for 15 years in the motorcycle industry under the byline “Moto-Joe”. For six years, he served as periodic co-host of a popular motorcycle-related weekly radio talk show in Los Angeles. In 1993, Joe married the lovely and gracious Amy. Amy is an influential lampwork-bead artist with international following. They now live in Newbury Park, California with their Daughter, Christin.
Music (guitar and piano) is among Joe’s diversions. He is also an Olympic-style competitive fencer with a USFA rating of “A” in epee.
In Late 2005, Caswell Knives undertook a new direction. Previously, all Caswell knives were ‘sole authorship’—made from beginning to end by Joe Caswell.
There will still be sole-authorship pieces, particularly historic recreations, but for certain “special projects”, beginning with the In-Line Pocket Clip folding knife, Joe has assembled a design/engineering team with members chosen for their great experience and superior performance in specialized fields. The Caswell EDC folder with “IN-LINE” Pocket Clip has won the “Best Innovative Design”, (custom knife category) at the 2008 Blade Show, Atlanta,GA. |
