I started making knives in the early 70’s from an article in a sporting magazine. Article on hand made knives. I thought I could do that. Found out there was more to it than I realized. Met Bob Engnath, probably through the phone book. Joined Cal Knives, and went to meetings, learned from Ferguson, Herndon, Wood and others, this was very helpful. Much to learn, properties of steel, forging, heat treatment, grinding, polishing, and so on. I made slow progress but in time improved. Two career highlights have been Bill Fiorini’s demonstration on making a damascus rifle barrel and Daryl Meier’s making of the presidents knife, George Bush Senior. I believe it took about 6 months to make. I never got beyond a hobby stage. As time went by I developed some health problems not unusual with old age and I am over 65 now and still here so I can complain.
